Course Registration Issues Heading link
If you are having trouble registering for a specific Economics course, please view responses to several common issues below. If you are unable to resolve the issue, contact us at econ@uic.edu. Be sure to include your name, UIN, current major, CRN(s) of the course you’re trying to enroll in, and a screenshot or description of the error message you’re seeing.

Econ 120 or Econ 121 Restrictions
Certain sections of both Econ 120 and Econ 121 are intended only for College of Business Administration students and are closed to students in any other major. These CBA-only sections are 3-credit hours, and consist of only a lecture, with no discussion section. Any student in any other college, regardless of major or minor, must take our standard 4-credit hour Econ 120 and 121 courses, which require a lecture and a corresponding discussion section. CBA students are restricted from enrolling in standard 4-credit sections. See below for appropriate sections based on your college.
Fall 2024 Courses
For College of Business Administration students:
Econ 120 lecture sections (3 credits)
- CRN 37448 (meets MWF 1-1:50pm)
- CRN 46952 (meets MWF 3-3:50pm)
Econ 121 lecture section (3 credits)- CRN 37450 (meets MWF 9-9:50am)
A linked placeholder section is also required for each of the CBA lecture sections. These placeholder sections don’t actually meet separately and they are 0 credits, but concurrent registration is required.
CBA students may instead register for a non-CBA 4-credit section of Econ 120 or 121 with departmental approval. Please note that non-CBA sections do require registration in a separate discussion section that meets one time per week. For approval, email econ@uic.edu with your UIN.
For students in any other college:
Econ 120 lecture sections (4 credits)
- CRN 10743 (meets MWF 1-1:50pm)
- CRN 10745 (meets TR 12:30-1:45pm)
Econ 121 lecture sections (4 credits)- CRN 10751 (meets MWF 9-9:50am)
- CRN 10752 (meets TR 9:30-10:45am)
A corresponding discussion section is required for each Econ 120 or 121 lecture section. Discussion sections meet separately one time per week.

Prerequisite Restrictions
First, ensure that you have completed all required prerequisite courses. Prerequisite requirements can be found in the Undergraduate Catalog.
If you completed prerequisites at UIC:
Email us at econ@uic.edu with your name and UIN as well as the name and CRN of the course for which you’re trying to register.If you completed prerequisites somewhere other than UIC:
Email us at econ@uic.edu with your name and UIN as well as the name and CRN of the course for which you’re trying to register. With your message, include some kind of records showing that you have completed the required prerequisites. This may include a transcript from your prior institution, a screenshot of your degree progress report, etc.
